Breaking the Blogging Dry Spell

Leadership, Random.
Today I published my first post on the new LeaderTalk blog. I decided to cover a topic that is on my front-burner at work right now — the issue of using student voices in decision-making. We just conducted a school-wide student interest survey and I’m in the middle of analyzing the data for our leadership team.
This first post also marks the end of a two-week dry spell on Change Agency. It’s been difficult to blog lately — my Grandmother, who I was very close to, passed away on March 4th (the date of my last blog post — I actually got the phone call from my Mom just moments after publishing the post) and when I returned home from the funeral I came down with a really nasty bug that kept me in bed and on some heavy-duty allergy/cold/sinus meds for quite a few days. I was basically out of commission for a whole week due to the family stuff and the bug. This past week was Spring Break and I spent most of it just trying to catch up on errands and other stuff that I couldn’t get done the previous week.
And given some of the morale-depressing news about my district recently, I was also beginning to feel a little confused and even pessimistic about all of this education work. I wasn’t feeling very inspired to write and I was beginning to feel very much like this. And even a bit like this too.
I’m feeling better today and I think that taking the time to write the post for LeaderTalk helped get me out of my funk.
(At least I hope it has!)

Stephanie,
Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I’ll be going over to read your post on LeaderTalk. It seems to be a bit of an epidemic with educators during March. It’s good to know that, out in the blogosphere, there are people that are like us and, by reading, are with us. Take care of yourself. Hope you’ve recovered from the bug. Here’s to a better April!
Thanks Kelly!
I agree — March seems to just be a bad time of the year for educators. Perhaps it starts with all of the testing — and the bad feelings are just amplified when we read the news?
I’m not sure — but I’m so incredibly grateful that I can find like-minded professionals in the blogosphere who are sharing their own concerns along with lots of great ideas. It helps me feel less isolated!
