Screen Sharing with Tiffany Screens

I successfully shared screens between a Windows-based HP Tablet and and Apple Powerbook using the free Tiffany Screens software.

I found the communication and the computers themselves to be operating faster when I was broadcasting from the Powerbook to the HP — but both worked fairly well as the “broadcasting” machine and as the “viewing” machine. Because you are sharing screens, in either case the machines do run a little more slowly than when not in sharing mode. I find this to be common with any screen sharing tool.

This is a great free tool that can be used in classrooms, in board rooms, and in meetings for sharing screens and sharing presentations without the use of a media projector. I haven’t tested it with a media projector — but I assume it would work just fine. This means you could be displaying your presentation on a screen using a projector as well as “broadcasting” it across the room with meeting attendees.

It doesn’t work quite as well as software designed for use on like-platforms, but for using across platforms it’s great — especially since it’s free and very easy to use. I had it set up and working within minutes. The software automatically detects other machines on the same network that are running Tiffany Screens.

The only problem that I found with it, was that I did have to turn off my firewalls on both computers. But for short term screen sharing, that may not be much of an issue for some people.

Get the software here — and then share your ideas for using this tool…
