Unplanned Hiatus

Where did the past three months go?

My blog almost feels like a stranger to me. It has been so long since I’ve blogged here that I almost feel as if I am starting over from scratch. So what caused my long absence? A coupe of things…

1) Morning sickness. I am now 18 weeks pregnant (due at the end of December) and I started feeling very sick near the end of April. I only just started feeling better within the past couple of weeks. Not only was I sick, but I was extremely fatigued and my brain just didn’t seem to function very well. I found out yesterday that I am expecting a girl (who appears very healthy so far on the ultrasound) and for those of you who know that I already have a set of twins — this is only a singleton! :-)

2) Building a new home. No, I’m not physically doing the building myself, but we have been in the process of having a new home built — a bigger home to accommodate our growing family — and with that has come a great deal of stress and demands on my attention. The house is nearly complete and we will be moving in over the next week. I can’t wait!

So there really hasn’t been much time or energy for blogging over the past few months. I didn’t plan this little hiatus but I’m okay with — in fact, I feel a bit refreshed and ready to resume some of my writing.

In fact, I just recently launched a new blog with a much narrower focus on literacy and reading in the home. The target audience for the new blog is parents and other caregivers who are interested in resources, tips/tricks, and research on how to improve the quantity and quality of reading in their homes. Please visit (and subscribe to) my new Young Readers blog if you have an interest in this topic. Additionally, I provide some information on how to use an online bookstore for Usborne Books to earn free books for your own children (or even your classroom library!).

I have a few other new things in the works, but I am not ready to reveal those just yet — but don’t worry because I will definitely make announcements here in the coming months. :-)

In other news, did you know that the new “Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard” (Apple) is now available for pre-order exclusively on Amazon for only $29 (upgrade for current OS 10.5 users)? Yay! :-)
